Village saw men go to war and all came back safely
Hunstanworth is one of the very few British villages which saw every single man who fought in the Great War come home safe and sound.
A plaque inside St James’ Church expresses the relief of the community to welcome back the men that had gone to battle.
One such man was Joshua – or Jossy – Jameson. He gave his certificate for safekeeping to great friend Bill Bates of Slaley before he died at the age of 91.
Jossy was one of four Jameson brothers who left Hunstanworth to fight – all to return alive.
